"...The recent Concluding Observations from the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child recommended that the UK Government provides sufficient resources for the effective implementation of its Anti-trafficking Action Plan and ensures that child protection standards for trafficked children and young people meet international standards. To do this effectively in Wales we first need to know the scale of the problem: how many children and young people are being rafficked?; for what purpose are they being trafficked?; how are we responding?; and what do we need to do to improve the protection of this very vulnerable group of children and young people? That is why I commissioned this research on child trafficking in Wales. This report details evidence gleaned from across Wales of children and young people being trafficked into and within Wales for forced labour, sexual exploitation, cannabis production, begging and domestic servitude. The sample is small but is undoubtedly only the tip of the iceberg. One large local authority in Wales was not prepared to share specific case data and the United Kingdom Border Agency did not participate despite a number of requests..."
