Summary
The first part of the report stems from earlier investigations in Turkey and focuses on the Eastern border of the country with Iran, a region marked by numerous arrivals of migrants from neighboring countries, but also from the rest of Asia and Africa. The second part shows the various angles of the treatment of "illegal passengers" on boats of the merchant marine and maritime ports during departure and arrival, and is based on observations and interviews in approximately twenty ports around Europe. The report attempts to bring attention to the detention of migrants in places not easily accessible and far from public attention, such as ships and ports. It aims to complement the Migreurop initiative to map detention camps in Europe and Mediterranean countries.
